On the Trail with Darcy and Lizzy: Maryland

We left our hiking duo at Caledonia State Park in the last installment. That leaves only about 20 miles before they cross the Mason-Dixon Line, which was originally surveyed in the 1760s by Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon to settle a border dispute between the colonial provinces of Pennsylvania and Maryland.

The Appalachian Trail follows the ridge of South Mountain for 40 miles through Maryland.  Along the way are several overlooks and other attractions.
